To achieve exceptional rigidity and vibration damping, the platter employs a two-layer construction with damping rubber applied to its entire rear surface. This innovation eliminates unwanted resonance that could affect the record, ensuring clear sound.
Enhancing inertial mass and minimizing vibration, the aluminum die-cast portion's shape has been meticulously optimized. At 2.5 kg (including the rubber mat), the SL-1210GR2 platter is 0.8 kg heavier than its predecessor, the SL-1200MK5. Strengthening ribs on the platter's back surface further improve rigidity, delivering damping characteristics over twice as effective as the SL-1200MK5.
The tonearm is designed for high initial-motion sensitivity, expertly tracking the record's rotation. This traditional static-balance universal S-shaped tonearm features an aluminum pipe known for its light weight and rigidity. The gimbal suspension construction and precision bearings ensure smooth tracking with a sensitivity of 5 mg or less, painstakingly assembled and adjusted by skilled Japanese artisans.
